10 months gone, 2 months to go to close the production year 2022/2023

  • 21.08.2023

After demanding start-up years, we now see that we have now managed to reach a profitable level, where operating income is greater that operating costs. Despite the fact we are still learning, we have a lot to be proud of. Throug the day to day work that we do on the farm, we have built a professional team with strong management. There is a culture of sustainable profitable growth, where shareholders and employees recieve bonuses and our role as community developers is strengthened.

We have harvested 67% of the planted area. In the next two weeks, we will finish harvesting all the seed maize on the farm. Once harvested cob sorting follows, a process which is also done manually. The clean maize cobs are then being shelled with a shelling machine and then sorted in the grain sorter. The sorted maize is then packed in bags ready to be taked by SeeCo. The completion of the current operation is expected to be in the first week of September.Following the demanding tight schedule, the team is working day and night to complete as planned.

We are very excited about the current operation and expected yield so far. We are expecting around 36 to 38 trailers with 32 tonnes each.

The Southern Agricultural Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) Partnership is committed to transforming the agricultural sector in Tanzania's southern corridor,by catalyzing inclusive and environmentally friendly investments. In collaboration with other stakeholders, SAGCOT runs a green growth initiative that promotes Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices. This initiative works to ensure a sustainable future for farmers, while increasing their crop yields. It focuses on developing improved agricultural practices that are economically and environmentally friendly.

Farm for the Future has been a member of SAGCOT since 2018, and as a partner FFF has been working with SAGCOT to make positive changes in the agricultural sector in Tanzania. SAGCOT has been a supportive partner to FFF and provided resources that helped form strong partnerships with other organizations. This has helped FFF implement its initiatives.

FFF has been selected by SAGCOT as one of the training centers for Climate Smart Agriculture as a model farm and champion for climate smart agriculture. Bringing various groups of farmers from different parts of the Southern Corridor for training on Climate Smart Agriculture. The training provides practical skills and knowledge on how to adapt to climate change.

In this initiative, SAGCOT has built an 8 by 15 m greenhouse at the FFF farm. The greenhouse is equipped with drip irrigation. In addition to the Children's Farm and Young Mother's Horticulture Training Center, the greenhouse facility offers additional learning opportunities. Young mothers and local farmers will be provided with technical guidance and training on greenhouse management. Farmers will also be encouraged to use climate smart agriculture practices, such as crop rotation and soil and water conservation. Farmers can significantly increase their income and yield by implementing these practices.

4 Trucks of Seed Maize dispatched last week.

  • 31.07.2023

Thursday last week we dispatched 4 trucks of seed maize weighing 32tons each. We are targeting a consignment of 1 truck per day from later this week. Our main goal now is to deliver all seed maize to SeedCo by September 10th, so we can get paid for all our maize by September 30, which is the last day in our financial year. To achieve that we managed to get our new seed grader on site on Friday last week. The seed grader will do grain sorting. This machine will be used on two shifts, and we also aim to deliver our seed maize sorted in 2 categories, so we can get a premium payment for the best. "The current operation is going on well. With good seed being produced. We are confident that with our new machine, we will be able to deliver all our seed maize by September 10, and with a good part of it to come in the premium category," said Leonard Nyabanga. FFF CEO and Farm manager.
